Every soul needs a wild place, a place that is lonely
A place where you are not in control
A place that is vast, trek-less, and dangerous
A place you can't see telephones poles
Every soul needs a wild place, a true wilderness
A place that's completely untamed
Where all beings act in accord with their natures
Undomesticated by shame
Every soul needs a wild place
Somewhere a little scary
Who's size the mind can't comprehend
Where you need to stay focused and respect your surroundings
Or you might meet an untimely end.
Every soul needs a wild place
A place so majestic that even an ego feels dwarfed
A place so unruly it can soften and straighten
A mind that conventions have warped.
Every soul needs a wild place
A place without borders, A place where you can't find a fence
Where the idea of owning or taking possession
Just doesn't make any sense
Every soul needs a wild place, a place so uncivil
That you drop every shade of pretense
Where you feel direct links between acts and survival
Thus recalling your true innocence
Every soul needs a wild place,
A place so damn big that it gets you to feeling quite small.
So the only way you co-exist in it's presence
Is to feel like your part of it all
Last night I had a vision
Of an endless human chain.
It stretched from here to God
Through sorrow, fear and pain.
Your place on the chain didn’t matter
As long as you were linked with
your sisters and brothers
And you were humble enough
To be led by one hand
And loving enough
To lead with the other.
